My Experience

I was initially introduced to this sunscreen by a Delhi-based dermatologist’s YouTube channel. Later, I found other dermatologists who also backed her perspective. My skin is rather combination to oil type, which means it can be both dry and oily depending on the weather and other factors. This can make it difficult to find a sunscreen that works well without leaving my skin feeling greasy or shiny. But with Neutrogena SheerZinc Dry-Touch Sunscreen, I found that it didn’t leave my skin feeling greasy, which is a huge plus. However, it did leave a slight white cast, but it absorbed quickly into my skin within a few minutes. And honestly, I can overlook the white cast considering the numerous benefits this sunscreen offers. One of the biggest pluses is that it is fragrance-free, unlike many competitor brands that claim to be but end up having a strong scent. After watching and reading so many reviews about using fragrance free products on skin, I have become more conscious about the ingredients in my skincare products.

Since this is a mineral based sunscreen, you can apply and directly step out. No need for a prior 15 minutes application rule which is actually a plus point keeping the busy schedules we all have. I always carry the bottle to work and reapply it whenever I step out for a short tea break.

Let’s understand difference between mineral sunscreen and chemical sunscreen

Sunscreen is an essential part of our skincare routine, especially during sunny days. There are two types of sunscreens available in the market: mineral sunscreen and chemical sunscreen. Mineral sunscreen, also known as physical sunscreen, contains natural minerals like zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These minerals sit on top of the skin and create a physical barrier that reflects the harmful UV rays away from the skin. On the other hand, chemical sunscreen uses chemicals like avobenzone, oxybenzone, and octinoxate to absorb the UV rays and then convert them into heat, which is then released from the skin. Chemical sunscreens usually have a lighter texture and absorb into the skin quickly, but they may cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some people. Mineral sunscreens are generally considered safer for sensitive skin, but they may leave a white cast on the skin due to the presence of minerals. Ultimately, the choice between mineral and chemical sunscreen depends on an individual’s skin type and personal preferences.

Good for Children

I apply the Neutrogena SheerZinc Dry-Touch Sunscreen religiously to my 8 year old daughter whenever she goes to school. I have noticed that she does not get any tan even after indulging in sports activities. She has taken up tennis as her hobby, and the Neutrogena sunscreen has been extremely helpful in protecting her delicate skin from sun damage. Moreover, I have noticed that the sunscreen doesn’t leave a significant white cast on my daughter’s lighter skin tone, unlike my brown skin tone.

Pros

 SPF 50, PA+++

Fragrance-free

Water and Sweat resistant

Hypoallergenic

Dermatologist tested

Cons

White Cast

Final Word:

Neutrogena SheerZinc Dry-Touch sunscreen is a great sunscreen readily available in the Indian market.

  • You can easily find it on Nykaa online or offline stores.
  • This fragrance-free sunscreen is water and sweat-resistant, making it my personal favorite.
  • It doesn’t leave any greasy residue, and I can step out without any worries immediately after applying it.

This sunscreen has become my go-to skincare essential that I cannot do without.

Please try it once as it is better than chemical sunscreen and a white cast should not bother you (which actually settles down later).
